A new school year is filled with potential—a chance to start new routines and habits, build new friendships and discover new possibilities and interests. It’s an exciting time for many kids, and an extra exciting time for kids entering preschool in Oakville.

With the support from the Grays Harbor Community Foundation and Oakville School District the YMCA of Grays Harbor has launched a new Preschool at Oakville Elementary.

Grays Harbor Community Foundation’s Great Beginnings of Grays Harbor supported the project with an award of capital dollars to ensure program feasibility and scholarship assistance to ensure sustainability of the program. To ensure the success of the program both the YMCA and Oakville School District have put forth operating resources to ensure the program runs successfully and grows for years to come. It has been remarkable to witness the work put in by each organization, all with the best interest of the youth in mind.

The new Preschool will offer a high quality licensed program during the traditional calendar school year. The program will focus on Early Learning Readiness and have a goal of preparing kids for kindergarten. The Y is dedicated to helping each child learn and achieve their full potential.

Advances in science and research have proven the important impact that preschool programs can have on children’s learning, but unfortunately too many children still do not have access to these programs. For some children when they enter kindergarten, huge educational gaps exist. The addition of the new preschool site at Oakville Elementary will expand access to high-quality preschool and help narrow achievement gaps.

Healthy child development starts early. That’s why we offer preschool that helps children learn the essential skills they’ll need later on. Our trained, supportive staff work to help each child have the best possible start in their education and arrive at their first day of kindergarten ready to learn.

Currently the preschool program at Oakville Elementary has 11 kids enrolled.

“At the Y, building community is our cause. We find that this is most effectively done through partnerships and collaborations that enable to broaden our reach in the community and serve it in new and unique ways. The opening of our site at Oakville School District is a perfect example of this. This exciting opportunity is a testament of what can be come with multiple organizations work together to impact the youth in a community. The YMCA has been blessed to be a part of the Grays Harbor Community Foundation’s initiative to increase full-day preschool access to youth. We are thankful we have been given the opportunity to serve the youth and families of Oakville and are looking forward to see what else the future brings” Franzine Potts, CEO YMCA of Grays Harbor.

Excited for the Class of 2032!
